First Friday Film
Friday, August 4th at 6:00 PM
This month, we’re showing a La-La Lovely film about two L.A. dreamers, one a suavely charming soft-spoken jazz pianist, the other a brilliant vivacious playwright, who, while waiting for their big break, attempt to reconcile aspirations and relationship in a magical old-school romance. Come sit on hard plastic chairs and revel in the camaraderie! Free, just like always, on our big screen every first Friday of the month. For film titles, visit the First Friday Films page or call the library.
Book Club
Thursday, August 10th at 6:00 PM
A non-fiction book is the topic of discussion this month! Hope Jahren is a Geobiologist who has spent her life studying trees, flowers, seeds, and soil. Lab Girl is her revelatory treatise on plant life—but it is also a celebration of the lifelong curiosity, humility, and passion that drive every scientist. Winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award for Autobiography, and named one of the Best Books of the Year by The Washington Post, TIME.com, NPR, Slate, Entertainment Weekly, Newsday, Minneapolis Star Tribune, and Kirkus Reviews. As always, copies are available for checkout early – just ask at the Circulation Desk.

Great Books Discussion Group
Tuesday, August 15th at 6:00 PM
Interested in philosophy and the big questions of life? Please join us each month for a round table discussion of how modern day issues are reflected and illuminated by the great Western classic books. This month, we’ll be tackling (ahem) The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon. Needless to say, we’ll only be reading an excerpt from the 12 volume set. Perhaps it will be the part about how the ‘bad emperors’ helped tank the Empire. Hmmmmm. Call the library for more information.
Curiosity Cafe: Coffee with a Cop
Saturday, August 19th at 1:00 PM
Every third Saturday, please join us to have a cup of coffee and enjoy monthly talks and workshops on a variety of topics. This month, we’ve invited an officer from our local Wilsonville Police Department for a visit. Here’s your chance to meet a Wilsonville police officer, find out the officers’ duties, and ask any questions bubbling around in your brain. Sorry, but contrary to rumor, ‘get out of jail free’ cards will not be distributed.
