WILSONVILLE, OR — The City of Wilsonville is now accepting applications for the 2020 Citizens Academy, a civic engagement program that features meetings, lectures and tours developed to prepare participants for service on City boards and commissions or other roles with local government and/or non-profit agencies in the community.
From January to March, the Citizens Academy is meeting every other Thursday, 6-8 pm, at City Hall., The program also includes day-time trips to the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility and the State Capitol in Salem. Participants attend a graduation ceremony during the evening meeting of the Wilsonville City Council on Apr. 6.
“This educational program provides a great way for residents and members of Wilsonville’s workforce to become more familiar with the City,” Mayor Tim Knapp said. “It’s a great way to gain an understanding of City programs and to meet the staff and elected officials who serve Wilsonville.”
Citizens Academy participants meet other civic-minded residents and receive an overview of many core functions – including city planning, public works, transit, public safety services and more – presented by City staff and elected officials.
Previous participants in the program include City Councilors Kristin Akervall and Ben West, as well as several appointees to City boards.
