Registration for Spring and Summer Parks and Recreation classes is now open. There are a variety of program offerings ranging from fitness to arts and from daytime to evening classes. Bridge Basics and Beyond: Drop-In Lessons -NEW!!
Know the basics and want to learn more? Need to brush up? Want to become a better declarer or defender? This on-going, no charge program will cover the latest bidding and playing techniques. There will be lectures, quizzes and pre-dealt hands to practice with. Come learn some new skills on Thursdays, 10-11:30 am at the Wilsonville Community Center.
Exploring Watercolor
Did you know that art acts like meditation and can reduce stress, improve memory, and, by drawing and painting, you can grow new brain cells? Class will explore watercolor painting, materials, techniques, and a bit of art history. Projects are directed toward the needs of the students with care taken to address beginners, and advanced designs. Every effort is made to initially make use of the student’s existing materials. The class will meet on Tuesdays, May 7 – June18, from 10:10 am to 12:10 pm at the Wilsonville Community Center. Cost is $63 and pre-registration is strongly encouraged to secure your spot.
Calling all Caregivers!
Please join Diane Dennis, RN, as she talks all things caregiving including emotional dynamics, navigating the healthcare system, finding resources, and self-care. Diane has experience as a home health nurse, the assistant director of nurses at two skilled nursing facilities, and the acting director of nurses at an assisted living facility. She has provided geriatric care management for three family members and served as their medical representative. This free seminar will take place on Wednesday, May8, from 11 am to 12 pm at the Wilsonville Community Center. There is no charge but please register by calling 503-570-1526.
Pilates Sculpt
Get the best of pilates and strength fitness in this non-impact hybrid class. Most work will be done on the mat/floor working to sculpt lean muscles with focus on the core—abdominals and back. Along with balance work and stretching, the class will touch on arms and legs to improve overall flexibility and strength. All levels welcome, progress as your body strengthens! Exercise mat required. The class will meet on Fridays, May 10 – June 21, from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Wilsonville Community Center. Cost is $52and pre-registration is strongly encouraged to secure your spot.
Alzheimer’s Education Series
The Alzheimer’s Association is pleased to present an ongoing series of free educational classes at the Wilsonville Parks & Recreation Administrative Offices, 29600 SW Park Place. Sessions will take place the second Thursday of each month and run from 10:00 – 11:30 am. May 9 – The Basics of Alzheimer’s
Understanding what is happening to a person with Alzheimer’s is key to interacting effectively and providing quality care. Information from professionals and firsthand accounts from people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s will be shared.
June 13 – Health Living for Brain & Body
Learn about research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement and how to use these tools to help incorporate the recommendations into your plan for healthy aging.
Estate Planning 101
Please join Rose Elder Law attorney Michael Rose for a free seminar at the Wilsonville Community Center to learn, “What is an estate plan and more importantly, do I need one?” Class topics will include: estate planning basics such as wills, trusts, probate, powers of attorney, advance directives and Medicaid planning.The seminar will take place on Tuesday, June 4 from 10 – 11:30 am at the Wilsonville Community Center. Park Rental Season Now Open
Wilsonville Parks and Recreation offers a number of park rental options including the River Shelter, the Forest Shelter, Grove Shelter, Splash Shelter and sport fields in Memorial Park. Community Garden Sign Up
The Wilsonville Community Garden is now accepting registrations. Gardeners are asked to come to the Parks and Recreation Admin Office and pick their garden plot. Raised beds are sold out but there are a few in-ground plots remaining. Cost is $25 for the season.
