On Thursday, December 13th, our Book Club meets at 6:00 PM. This month, they’ll be reading the book Code Girls by Liza Mundy. The book is an award-winning New York Times nonfiction bestseller about the American women who secretly served as codebreakers during World War II. Recruited by the U.S. Army and Navy from small towns and elite colleges, more than ten thousand women served as codebreakers during World War II. Their efforts shortened the war, saved countless lives, and gave them access to careers previously denied to them. Through dazzling research and interviews with surviving code girls, bestselling author Liza Mundy brings to life this riveting and vital story of American courage, service, and scientific accomplishment. As always, multiple copies of next month’s book are available the month before the meeting. Grab one today!

On Monday, December 17th, at 1:00PM, our Genealogy Club will gather. At the meeting, you can discover new genealogical resources and tools, discuss personal research and goals, and learn from experienced genealogists. Free, and open to all levels, from seasoned genealogists to beginners.

On Tuesday, December 18th, at 6:00PM, our Great Books Discussion Group meets. Are you interested in philosophy and the big questions of life? Join us each month for a roundtable discussion of how modern day issues are reflected and illuminated by the great Western classic books. This month, we’ll be discussing First Principles of Morals by Immanuel Kant. Ask to join our Great Books e-mailing list to receive monthly scans of our readings.

The Library will close early at 2:00PM on Monday, December 24th and remain closed through Tuesday, December 25th to celebrate Christmas. Have a wonderful holiday season, and I hope your stockings are not filled with either clean or dirty coal! If you need to renew books, you can do so online, or by calling our renewal hotline at 503-659-8634. See you on the 26th!
