Hello Wilsonville Library Fans,
Now that our thrilling renovation is complete, we invite you (without construction noise at last!) to see the changes. We sure like them, and hope that you do too!
Here’s what’s going on in September for adults:
The library will be closed on Monday, September 3rd in honor of Labor Day. You can still renew items or place holds online. Our automated telephone renewal line is also available at 503-659-8634.
On Friday, September 7th, at 6:00 PM, our long-anticipated First Friday Film program returns after its renovation hiatus. To inaugurate our freshened Oak Room, we’ll be showing a science fiction film set in 2045, with the world in poor shape and ready for a better outcome than ubiquitous virtual reality can apparently provide. I can’t tell you the title here due to copyright police restrictions, but if you’re having trouble figuring out which film it is, call us and we’ll let you in on the big secret.
On Thursday, September 13th, our Book Club meets at 6:00 PM. This month, they’ll be reading the nonfiction book “The Undoing Project” by Michael Lewis. What’s it about? Well, forty years ago Israeli psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky wrote a series of breathtakingly original studies undoing our assumptions about the decision-making process. Their papers showed the ways in which the human mind erred, systematically, when forced to make judgments in uncertain situations. Their work created the field of behavioral economics, and much else. As always, multiple copies of next month’s book are available the month before the meeting. Grab one today!
On Monday, September 17th, our Genealogy Club will meet. At the meeting, you can discover new genealogical resources and tools, discuss personal research and goals, and learn from experienced genealogists. Free, and open to all levels, from seasoned genealogists to beginners.
On Tuesday, September 18th, our Great Books Discussion Group meets. Are you interested in philosophy and the big questions of life? Join us each month for a roundtable discussion of how modern day issues are reflected and illuminated by the great Western classic books. This month, we’re reading and discussing On Dreams by Sigmund Freud.
On Tuesday, September 25th, at 6:30 PM, you should check out theHistory Pub! The Wilsonville Public Library Foundation, the Wilsonville/Boones Ferry Historical Society, and McMenamin’s have teamed up to present monthly programs focusing on Oregon’s rich history. Held at the McMenamin’s Old Church (near Fred Meyer). This month we’ll be presenting a program for which details were not available by press time, but we’re sure it will be interesting! Check our website, or give us a call for further details.
