Charbonneau Country Club Dining Room
Social with beverages and snacks: 6:00 p.m.
Program begins: 6:30 p.m.
Q & A: about 8:15 p.m.
Dr. Scott Burns, PSU Geologist, will present: “Portland’s Past and Future Earthquakes: Is the Portland area Ready for the Big One?” A very dynamic speaker, Scott will explain the science behind worry over Portland’s earthquake risk, addressing the major concerns:
-Why do we have a chance of a major earthquake here in the Portland area.
-How does the chance of major quakes affect building codes, emergency preparedness, siting of critical facilities, building of bridges, and transportation corridors in the region?
-What have we learned from recent major quakes around the world that can be applied to the Pacific Northwest?
If Scott’s name seems familiar, it is because he is often called upon by local TV, radio stations, and newspapers to help explain important geological news.
As a follow-up to Scott Burns’ explanation of the earthquake risk we face, Kamran Mesbah, who is member of the CCC Board of Directors and chair of the CCC Emergency Preparedness Committee, will describe the current level of emergency readiness in Charbonneau.
These two presentations will be followed by a Q & A session for everyone who attends.
