Alzheimer’s Education
The Alzheimer’s Association is pleased to present an ongoing series of free educational classes at the Wilsonville Parks & Recreation Administrative Offices, 29600 SW Park Place. Sessions will take place the 2nd Thursday of each month and run from 10:00 – 11:30 am. 7/12 – Know the 10 Signs
Gain an understanding of the differences between age-related memory loss and Alzheimer’s and what to do if someone has signs of the disease.
8/9 – Effective Communication Strategies
Explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and to help connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.
Beginning Gentle Yoga
A slower paced and very beginner yoga class. This class is designed to strengthen the body gradually while building on the five essentials of movement: balance, mobility, agility, stability and flexibility. Yoga postures and other movement forms will be introduced with an emphasis on moving to feel better, conscious breathing, alignment, and relaxation. The use of chairs and other props is offered to ensure that the benefits of yoga are available for those with varying degrees of strength and flexibility. Please bring your own yoga mat. All other props are provided. The class will meet on Tuesdays from July 10 to August 28, 8:30 – 9:30 am at the Community Center. Cost for the session is $48.
Tap Dance for All Levels
Talk about fun! Whether you’ve tapped before or you’re a beginner with two left feet, this class will have you shuffling off to Buffalo in no time. Tap dancing is great exercise and the fun and friendly atmosphere of this class will keep you coming back for more. The class will meet on Wednesdays from July 11 to August 15, 1:30 – 2:30 pm, at the Community Center. Cost for the session is $42.
Yin/Yang Yoga
This 90-minute class combines active and passive yoga postures, with deep breathing and meditation. We’ll move through a series of Hatha-based yoga poses to build heat and strength in the body. You’ll leave class feeling refreshed, balanced and deeply relaxed. Open to all levels, including beginners, but does require the participant’s ability to freely move from the floor (supporting body weight) to standing. Yoga mat required. The class will meet on Thursday evenings from July 12 to August 30, 5:30 – 7:00 pm at the Community Center. Cost for the session is $75.
