Registration for the Winter and Spring session of classes is now open. Classes begin at the end of February and into early March. New sessions of Oil Painting, Yoga, Pilates, Nia and Tai Chi will be starting soon. Activities can be viewed and registered for at WilsonvilleParksandRec.com.
Alzheimer’s Education Series
The Alzheimer’s Association is pleased to present an ongoing series of free educational classes at the Wilsonville Parks & Recreation Administrative Offices, 29600 Park Place Court. Healthier Living for your Brain and Body – February 8
For centuries, it has been understood that the health of the brain and the body are connected. But now, science is able to provide insights into how to make lifestyle choices that may help you keep your brain and body healthy as you age. Join the Alzheimer’s Association to learn about research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement, and use hands-on tools to help you incorporate these recommendations into a plan for healthy aging.
Dementia Conversations – March 15
When someone is showing signs of dementia, it’s time to talk. Often, conversations with family about changing behaviors can be challenging and uncomfortable. This program provides tips for breaking the ice with your family so you can address some of the most common issues that are difficult to discuss: going to the doctor for a diagnosis or medical treatment, deciding when to stop driving, and making legal and financial plans for future care.
Brain Fitness Club
Exercising the brain is important. Come enjoy a fun interactive group that will be a mix of education and fun games. Stephanie Barnett-Herro from Clackamas County, along with special guest facilitators, will lead the group through memory games, brain activities and fun conversation. This free club will meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the Community Center from 10:45-11:45 am. The first meeting of this club will take place on February 14.
Fall Prevention Seminar
Join Oregon Health Sciences University for a two hour interactive class to learn about Pedestrian Safety, Exercises for Strength, Endurance and Balance, Concussion Education and Prevention, Community Resources and Fall Prevention Methods. Program will take place on Friday, February 23 from 1:15-3:15 pm at the Community Center. There is no charge but please pre-register by calling the Community Center.
Program Highlight: SMART Transit 101
Join RideWise, your local travel training program, for a two-class session to learn more about using public transit in Wilsonville and beyond. In the first class on February 9th (10:15 – 11:45 am), the class will cover information on fares, trip planning, accessibility and more. During the second class on February 16th (10:00 – 11:30 am), knowledge will be put to the test as participants head out to ride SMART to SMART Central/WES Station. Class will meet at the Community Center and there is no charge.
Free Income Tax Assistance
Appointments are now being taken for Free AARP Income Tax assistance at the Wilsonville Community Center. Income tax preparation and electronic filing for both 2017 Federal and State Returns will be provided with the joint help of the IRS and AARP Tax-Aide Program. This free service is provided by trained and certified IRS-AARP Tax Aid Volunteers. Call 503-682-3727 to schedule an appointment. Appointments available on Thursdays through April 12th from 9 am to 4 pm.
