Dick Schultze passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born and raised in Washington, D.C. and graduated Duke University with a degree in electrical engineering. He went on to receive graduate degrees from Stanford University in mechanical and nuclear engineering. Dick then served seven years in the Navy as a line officer on submarines. During this time he married Joan Holleman, and they had two sons, Eric and Douglas. After his Naval service, Dick went on to hold many management positions in high tech. Joan and Dick later divorced, and he married Linda Hansen in 2003.
Community service was always important to Dick. He volunteered for many years in the Boy Scouts, he was active in his church (Christ Episcopal in Lake Oswego), he was a Medicare counselor, he served on boards and committees for the city of Wilsonville, and he was a board member of the Charbonneau Golf Club.
Dick is survived by his wife, Linda; his sister, Carol Barreau (Gene) of Charlotte, N.C.; his sons, Eric (Jennifer) of Bellevue, Wash. and Doug (Faith) of Frisco, Texas; his stepson, Eric Hansen (Maura) and stepdaughter, Karen Smith (Jason) both of Portland, Ore.; and nine grandchildren.
A family celebration of Dick’s life will take place at a later date. Remembrances may be made in his name to Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon.
