First Friday Film

Friday, May 5th at 6:00 PM

Watch the latest releases, from blockbusters to independent films, for free on our big screen each first Friday of the month. This month we’re showing a film about Troy Maxson, a sanitation worker in 1950s Pittsburgh. Maxson once dreamed of becoming a pro baseball player, but was deemed too old when the major leagues finally began admitting black athletes. Bitter over his missed opportunity, Troy creates further tension in his family when he squashes his son’s chance to meet a college football recruiter. Join us to eat tasty free snacks and sit on uncomfortable plastic chairs!

Finding Your Ancestral Gold: A genealogy workshop

Everyone has an amazing family history – but most have no clue how truly remarkable it is, because they have never investigated the generations going far back in time. This workshop, led by a genealogist, inspires you to embark on a quest for your ancestral heritage and guides you through the steps to get you started. Presented by Laurence Overmire, the author of 10 books. He has had a multi-faceted career as genealogist, poet, actor, director, educator and public speaker. His most recent book is “Digging for Ancestral Gold: The Fun and Easy Way to Get Started on Your Genealogy Quest”.

Book Club

The Book Club meets monthly for informal discussion in the library. Join fellow readers for lively and thought-provoking conversation about excellent books. Books to be discussed are available for check out – just ask at the Circulation Desk. This month we’re reading anything by historian Stephen Ambrose and discussing his work and favorite themes!

Book Notes Concert: Indalo Wind

Great Books Discussion Group

Interested in philosophy and the big questions of life? Please join us each month for a roundtable discussion of how modern day issues are reflected and illuminated by the great Western classic books. This month, we’re studying Medea by Euripides.

Curiosity Cafe: Hubble Telescope

Saturday, May 20th at 1:00 PM

Each third Saturday of the month please join us to have a cup of coffee and enjoy monthly talks and workshops on a variety of topics. This month Former Hubble design team engineer Tom Styczynskitalks about the design, building, and testing of the Hubble Space Telescope, with a focus on the challenges of servicing in space, particularly the first servicing mission that addressed a problem with the installed optics.

History Pub @ Wilsonville McMenamins

Tuesday, May 30th at 6:30pm @ Wilsonville McMenamins’ Old Church

The Wilsonville Public Library Foundation, the Wilsonville/Boones Ferry Historical Society, and McMenamins have teamed up to present monthly programs focusing on Oregon’s rich history. This month, please join us for a free, public screening of OPB’s new Oregon Experience documentary “Vanport.” This film tells the story of Vanport, which, in the early 1940s, was the second-largest city in Oregon before a catastrophic flood destroyed it.

Mondays, May 1st, 8th, and 15th at 10:00 AM

Drop in anytime and let the kiddos play with a variety of toys, as well as socialize with the under-6 crowd. For children ages birth to 6 with their grownups

Toddler Time

Tuesdays, May 2nd, 9th, and 16th at 10:00 AM

Join us for an interactive program that includes songs, parachute fun, bubbles, puppets, and stories for our youngest patrons. This program is designed with even the most active toddler in mind!

Baby Time

Tuesdays, May 2nd, 9th, and 16th at 11:00 AM

Moms, Dads, Grandmas and Caregivers join us for songs, rhymes, and special bonding time with your baby. Stay afterward to play and chat with other caregivers about all things baby!

Family Storytime

Tuesdays, May 2nd, 9th, and 16th at 6:30 PM

Wednesdays, May 3rd, 10th, and 17th at 10:30 AM; then again at 1:00 PM

Bring the whole family for crowd pleasing good time with books, stories, and songs. The program is intended for all ages.

Karaoke & Quiz Night

Friday, May 19th at 6:30 PM

Sing-a-long or play along . . . your choice. Enjoy a lounge style atmosphere with some friends and a drink in your hand while we sing a few of our favorite sing-a-long songs, and do team quiz pop trivia games. Open to students in grades 6–12, free and fun!
